[Open Letter] Not only not perfect: aware of wrongs, yet unwilling to change — An open letter from the iLabour Action Group to Foxconn Technology Group

iLabour Action Group (formerly The new generation migrant workers concern programme” research team) has released a statement to respond to the recent statement by Foxconn Technology Group to All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) to excuse its labour rights violations. [Open letter to CITIC Dicastal, General Motors, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, Mazda, Ford & Honda] Pays up compensation and lifelong medical treatment to the victims of explosion in Kunshan Zhongrong, Jiangsu Province, China now!

SACOM strongly condemns the explosion in Kunshan Zhongrong Metal Products Co Ltd. (hereinafter Zhongrong) on 2 August 2014.  As at 4 August 2014, the incident caused at least 75 dead and injured more than 180 workers.  Many injured victims have burn over 75% to 95% of the total body surface and at least 11 workers are still in critical condition. According to the media, we learnt that the explosion was caused by the burning of inflammable metallic dust.

Zhongrong is under the supply chain of CITIC Discastal, which produces wheel rim for automobile companies such as General Motors, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Mazda, Honda. SACOM demands the involved companies to take up their [...]

[Statement] Supporting “Let’s Tackle Apple Action” of May of Solidarity in Europe

Today, workers and activists call for the “Let’s Tackle Apple Action” in different European cities, in front of the stores of the world’s most valuable brand Apple, to protest against Apple and its chief supplier Foxconn in labour exploitation.
